Basement water in Kent County

Kent County knows flooding. In March 2010, the Pawtuxet River reached a record crest, and homes from Warwick to West Warwick flooded. Most basement water here comes from something less dramatic, like groundwater after a wet spring or runoff that drains toward the house, but the 2010 floods are why many homeowners take it seriously.

Our recent work here includes sealing a dirt-floored space in Warwick and pouring a new floor in an old fieldstone basement in Coventry.

Dirt floor sealed with a liner and sump

This space had a bare dirt floor and was susceptible to flooding. A new sump basin collects the water, and a drainage mat and white liner seal the floor and lower walls, fitted around the steel support posts.

New floor in a fieldstone basement

Old fieldstone walls are uneven and not something you want to cut into, so the work stayed along the floor. Gravel and a vapor barrier went down first, with a drainage strip along the stone, before the new concrete was poured.
