Basement water in New London County

Shoreline towns like Old Lyme, East Lyme, Waterford, Groton, and Stonington sit low and close to the water, which can make them more susceptible to rising groundwater in a wet spring or a coastal storm. Inland, many older homes have stone or block foundations and bulkhead entries, and those are common places for water to get in.

Our recent work here shows the range: a drain at a basement door in Old Lyme, a drain and sump in a finished basement in Montville, and a repaired wall seam in North Stonington.

Drain in a finished basement

This finished basement had a history of minor flooding, and the goal was to fix it without losing the room. Only the lower strip of drywall came out, and a new drain along the wall now feeds a sump under patched concrete.

Basement door drain

The sandbags at this door were the homeowner's own fix for water pooling at the threshold and seeping into the basement. A channel drain now catches that water at the door and sends it down a buried line, set in a new concrete landing, so nothing needs sandbagging.
